Publishing

For nearly two decades, I've worked at the intersection of marketing and storytelling, helping publishers, authors, and mission-driven organizations reach the readers and communities who need their work. My career in publishing includes BET Books, the publishing arm of Black Entertainment Television, home to iconic imprints like Arabesque (Soul of Romance), Sepia, and New Spirit. I also spent years at Rowman & Littlefield and BookDaily.com building marketing and publicity programs that carried authors' stories into schools, libraries, and homes across the country, and I marketed educational content for PBS, working within its role as a trusted classroom resource.

Throughout my career, and through the many changes in the publishing industry, I have found absolute joy working with authors: understanding their vision and building the strategy that expands their reach. It is the work that still today excites, motives, and brings me absolute fulfillment.

Some of the work includes:

  • Developed and executed marketing campaigns spanning print, radio, and online, helping forecast new business opportunities.

  • Developed integrated marketing and publicity programs for BET Books, including its Arabesque (Soul of Romance), Sepia, and New Spirit imprint lines.

  • Managed the event calendar and represented BET Books at industry and trade events.

  • Marketed educational content for PBS, aligning campaigns with its role as a trusted classroom resource.

  • Held marcom consulting positions managing publicity programs for several organizations, securing national media coverage.
